The summer storm "Mini series" has come to a close, and I wanted to touch base on some of the key moments from the storm series. A lot went down during the rainy night in Twin Peaks, so let's get started.
One of the biggest storylines in this summer storm was the should have been intervention with Andy at the Calimo cabin, with Kim, Donovan, Trenyce & Savannah. With the storm happening, I knew that everyone would have to be delayed getting to the cabin with the exception of Savannah. Trenyce was easy because she had Daisy's dinner party; I ended up making Donovan get trapped in the elevator with Lukas (to try to push this storyline forward), and Kim was kissing Tyler. That set the cards on the table for Savannah and Andy.
Andy's drinking storyline was really inspired by Felicia's drinking on Another World, years ago. I didn't want this storyline to be a couple of months of him drinking heavily, I really wanted it to be a long lasting story that showed how much losing Reese had impacted him. So, it's been a year because Reese died this time last summer. The Andy/Savannah scenes at the cabin are some of my favorite's because he is so stubborn and he refuses to realize that he does have a problem with alcohol. Savannah dying was always the plan, but I didn't want it to be Andy's fault outright because then I'd lose the character, and I didn't want that. The radio in the bathtub seemed like a good way to go - especially because it is a unique way for a character to die, which I always enjoy.
So, why did Savannah have to die? Well, it's pretty simple really: she had served her purpose on the series. I'm always trying to cut fat from the series in terms of characters and storylines, and after Savannah learned that Chris & Trenyce were using her to try to get Andrew back, she really didn't fit into the show anymore. It was a pretty easy decision to make (unlike the idea of killing Leah and Reese last year, which were more difficult decisions), and I love her exit. Her death will also push Andy, Trenyce and Chris into future story, which is always the goal as well.
Some other big moments from the storm:
Bob and Dominick's fight where Bob had his stroke and Dominick left him for dead. I LOVED some of the lines these two had. Dominick's "Another one of your wives turned to a Robertson man for comfort" was classic, in my opinion. The fight scene was also inspired by a real life soap, this time Y&R. Years ago, Jack and Victor had a fight and Jack left Victor for dead when he had a heart attack or a stroke. The great thing about this development, is that it will impact Robbie, Victoria, Natasha, Eva, Kim, Tyler, Felicia ... it's pretty huge impacting. And, what happens next will really change the dynamic of the Bob/Kim/Tyler triangle.
A big secret that was (finally) revealed during the storm was that of Adam and Natasha's affair. It was long overdue to come out, so I'm glad it did. Barbara seeing Natasha in Helen's house set her off and she exposed the affair to Helen. I loved Helen finally being a little bit more than just a good girl and getting to slap both Adam and Natasha. Those were some fun scenes to write. Shane, of course, also learned the truth, but he did so by reading Natasha's hospital file. The thing that is great about that twist is that it could cost him his job. There is still more to this storyline as well, as the truth about Dawn blackmailing Natasha still has to come out.
Those were the big story's that I wanted to touch on in this mini series. Of course, there was a lot of other action too, like Donovan and Lukas, Rebecca and Cory, and Daisy's dinner party.
I hope you all liked the summer storm! Fall will be just as exciting.
Until next time,
