Alright, it's been a while since I did a blog post, but I thought I should go over ALL of the drama that unfolded in November for Sweeps.
So, let's start with the main story that unfolded in Banff, Canada with Cassie, Jacob, Paige & Max. In case you hadn't noticed by now, but I love a good location shoot. I've gone to Santa Barbara a few times and Paris earlier, so I thought something closer to my personal home would be fitting for a winter getaway. The Rockies are stunning year round, but especially in the winter. The scenes are literally what postcards are made of. The actual storyline, however, was inspired by Beverly Hills 90210 when Tara locked Kelly up in a car and left her to die with the exhaust going to kill her.
Of course, the set up had to be done weeks/months in advance. We've seen Cassie getting closer to falling off the edge for a while now, first with Jacob and Paige's growing romance but also her schemes with the companies and stealing money. After Jacob didn't come rushing back to her after she drugged him and they had sex and the stolen money scheme was starting to unravel, Cassie did snap and this is why she wanted to kill Jacob and Paige. She truly believed that if she couldn't have Jacob, no one should. In her right frame of mind, she never would have gone to these lengths. Of course, having her die in a plane crash right after was the best solution because she needed a break from the canvas; of course, she could always come back, but after almost killing two of the young stars, she needed a breather. We will see what happens next, but her death will heavily impact Max, Paige and Jacob moving forward.
The next big thing that unfolded this month was the baby switch. I really wanted something dramatic to happen with Abby giving birth but also Donovan and Lukas adopting. I think everyone assumed that Abby's baby would be adopted out to Donovan and Lukas, but I wanted something even more dramatic to have happen. That's when I came up with the idea of Vinny getting involved to support Andrew, who didn't want to be a father yet. So, Vinny blackmailed Bryce, the doctor who altered his DNA test, into helping him tell Abby that her child was dead when in reality, Donovan and Lukas adopted him. We will see Abby, Andrew, Donovan and Lukas all in new lights and in a new direction now. Abby will be devastated and grieving while Lukas and Donovan will rejoice in their new family unit. If you think that this storyline will be wrapped up quickly, think again. My favorite part about this storyline is how long it goes on for!
The last thing that I want to touch on is the start of the serial killer storyline, which began when Cheresa found Shelley dead in her apartment. 2022 will be ODaaT's 20th' anniversary online and I really wanted to do some huge storylines for the anniversary year; when I was looking at the history of ODaaT, one of the storylines that I hadn't tackled before was a serial killer and I thought that my cast had become very large over the last few years. I was also heavily inspired by Footprints, which is written by Michael Ross, as he had a serial killer a few seasons ago. All of this combined, I put together the storyline and November we saw the start of it as Simona (of all people!) realized that the death of Shelley was a result of a serial killer. We will see another death by the end of the year and a few more into the new year before we find out who the killer is. Just be prepared for a very bumpy ride in this storyline!
