***Warning, please do not read the below blog post if you haven't read episode 600 yet as this contains spoilers***
600 episodes! Can you believe it? It is hard to believe that I have released so much content of One Day at a Time, especially since my return in 2009. In that time frame, I have released around 550 episodes … that's a good chuck in 11 years and something I am super proud of!
Over the last couple of years, whenever I have a milestone episode, I really like to celebrate with dailies leading up to the milestone. With the way the calendar worked out this year, these dailies were very close to the February sweep dailies so there's even more content in a relatively short time. The other aspect of this was that I had to figure out story for a week, which wasn't too difficult considering everything that is going on in Twin Peaks right now. I also knew that I wanted something pretty major to happen to celebrate the 600th episode. I feel like each milestone episode, something monumental should happen, it only makes sense.
Of course, the big story that was currently playing out was Helen being buried alive. That's really when I got the idea to have Helen saved in episode 600 after, another, interrupted wedding. The visual I had was super dramatic of Adam wearing his tuxedo, covered in dirt and snow falling while digging up Helen’s coffin to save her… that was one of my inspirations for how it unfolded. Of course, Robin watching this happen in what should have been her wedding day was also super fun to write. The best part about this is now we can continue on with a Helen/Adam/Robin triangle, which will have new depth now.
Overall, the buried alive story has been one of my all-time favorite storylines from the last 600 episodes; it really was something out of 90's Days of Our Lives, which was such a great time to be a Days fan. There were so many people impacted by the storyline too, which helps create a lot of great tension, so it's even more fitting that it came to a conclusion, of sorts, on the 600th episode.
What did you think of the 600th episode? Did you like the buried alive story? What are some of your favorite memories from the last 600 episodes? Sound off below!
Until next time
