Wow, I can't believe it's all over already. I always love "finale energy," how everyone is running around putting the pieces into place for the eventual ending. It's a pace you rarely see in "regular" episodes, though CD tended to move so fast that it kind of always had that. I was surprised at how quickly some stuff wrapped up -- especially Stacey and Lex's situations, since an episode or two ago, I had NO idea how you were going to get them to neat conclusions. Actually, almost everything feels open-ended, like you could just dive into another season if you wanted to. Odette's "league of villains" wasn't my favorite thing throughout the series, but it served to get everything to culminate in a more centralized way. I loved Lucinda popping up and bopping Odette over the head just in time. I actually thought Lydia was the one drugging Lucinda; something about the way she acted before and during that visit with Stacey made it seem like she might be up to something devious. And I wouldn't have really blamed her! But it makes sense that it was another extension of Odette's plan. I'm a little unclear on exactly how they knew they'd somehow get Lex to think he was sleeping with a stablehand named Toby (can you control hallucinations that much?!), but I guess the drugged tea was rather magical. Also, why were the cops too dumb to question HOW Mac suddenly produced Dixie's body?! That was rather suspicious. Was Simona Lopez secretly running this case? It actually felt right for Mac and Lydia to wind up together, and it brought everything full-circle in an effective way. It also somehow fits for Kent to wind up in this new triangle with Vivian and Sabine. It's always nice to imagine life going on for the characters in a way. And it felt like, in general, the five seasons basically played out the stories you set up at the start. Congrats on a successful run and finale! I really enjoyed when the series would drop and I could binge it all in a week or so. The fast pace and crazy shenanigans made it easy to just keep reading til the end.

Wow, I can't believe it's all over already. AHH! I know! It sort of feels like the end of an era. A really fun era. But the end of an era! It's interesting that you felt like this had a "finale energy", because while writing this season I actually thought it was a "slower" moving season than some of the previous seasons. I will say, a lot of the "conclusions" I sort of had in my mind before the start of the season. The last scene, for example, I knew would be the final season of the series. I loved the book end feel of it; the first scene in 1.01 was Lydia & Mac discussing their divorce; the last scene in 5.10 they were remarrying. Full circle. I will be real with you, I really thought about killing Odette in the bomb. However, I didn't want to introduce a ton of new characters this season (the only real "Major" character that was new this season was Toby, who wasn't even real) because I wanted the season to be about the core players we all knew and (I hoped) loved. However, I realized that if I did kill Odette, I wouldn't have a character who wasn't white and I didn't like that. I always try to have diversity on my series, so Odette lived. I agree the plans were all over the top; the Toby thing is one of my favorites of the season. The body was always going to come back; Mac knew where it was because he had it moved last year. But I wish I had thought of Simona – it could have been a great crossover haha.
Yes, when I thought of Mac & Lydia reuniting, I thought it would be fun to throw Kent in a triangle with Vivian and Sabine and imagine all the drama that would have plan out, especially since Vivian and Cole's on again-off again was shut off for good.
Congrats on a successful run and finale! I really enjoyed when the series would drop and I could binge it all in a week or so. The fast pace and crazy shenanigans made it easy to just keep reading til the end. Thanks so much for your support during the last two years, Michael! This was a departure from the weekly reads of ODaaT, so I'm glad you were able to enjoy Chasing Diamonds. I really value your input! Dallas
