This week marked the character of Cassie Nova departing the series as she headed to New York City for some time. While she has been a favorite of mine to write for, it was time to give the character a break of sorts. Let me explain.
When I brought the character back in 2017, it was a great twist. If you recall, Shane had just gone through a statutory rape trial with Paige; all of the charges were dropped when Paige confessed on the witness stand that she and Shane actually never had sex. However, she, Dawn and Shane were all sentenced to do some court-ordered therapy. The twist was the therapist was actually Cassie, which was great considering Cassie's history with Shane and Natasha, whom were still married at the time.
The rest of this run for the character, however, really fell flat in my opinion. I had this epic idea of how to reintroduce her by being the therapist but the rest of the storyline really wasn't there. This is a character that is driven and determined to get what she wants and will do whatever it is required to reach those goals. However, the worst thing she did in this year and a half was use a relationship with Shane to get back at Natasha. Not exactly the type of schemes we are used to seeing from Cassie.
After Shane's birthday party, I did know that I wanted Cassie and Robbie to have an affair. But while I was planning the year, I realized that I needed to shelf the character for some time as a type of reset, if you will. I thought that I really wasn't doing the character any justice in this go-around and instead of keeping her as the status quo, I thought I would send her off so when she does come back, it can be with a bang.
The highlight of this time with Cassie would be her relationship with Max and seeing how much of Max is actually a mini-version of Cassie. This relationship will pick up again when Cassie returns to the series, which she will one day. She is too key in the series to not be featured, it just has to be done the right away.
What do you think of Cassie's departure? Will you miss her? Sound off below …

In other news, I did tweet out that I finally had a good idea for the second season of Pender Island (!) … with work being crazy busy right now (I am mentoring some new hires), I haven't had much time other than to get the initial idea down on paper … I'm hoping something more will come from this idea because it is a good idea (and super twisted) … stay tuned! And, with the Chasing Diamonds mini-series having just wrapped, I already do have more great ideas for the next arch … it's just a matter of also finding the time to flesh out all the idea and writing … many things in the works!
